Blackwood Orchard

About

In an area renowned for its apples and pears, Colin and Suzanne Pickering, apple growers themselves realised the apple industry in Harcourt was dwindling. Wanting to move away from sprays and the toll hand picking apples has on your body, the Pickering’s made the switch to cherries and strawberries. With over 7 varieties of cherry and 6000 strawberry plants on the farm, they now have the opportunity they have to meet their customers face to face and love seeing the enjoyment people get from eating their produce.

Sustainability

Cherries are grown without the use of sprays and covered in netting to provide a physical barrier to pests. They also sell hydroponic strawberries that are grown off the ground, reducing the impact of bugs and preventing the use of pesticides.
